The lock works well to keep the cover in place, so you can drop it without having to worry about the cover popping open and the batteries falling out.

The slide is actually a lock because the Clamplight can stand up on its own instead of being clamped somewhere. The clamps themselves are rubberized and textured for grip while standing or clamped. The rubber should not mark or damage the surface you attach the Clamplight to, but it will hold firm. The head can tilt and swivel and when tilting it clicks and locks into place.

There are five positions you can tilt the head to beginning with straight like a standard flashlight to slightly off ninety degrees downward.

The front has a clear cover and most is the reflector with the LED down in the center. The work light I use most is a small LED flashlight from Joby called the Blade which is rechargeable and the beam is adjustable so it has multiple uses for me. It also features high and low levels of brightness which can come in handy.

The Blackfire Clamplight has many uses as well since it can be clamped to objects and it can stand on its own. Ordinary spotlights chew threw batteries like candy, but the Spotlight Clamplight has an integrated, rechargeable Lithium Polymer battery.

All you have to do is plug it in using the included adapters, and you're back up to full power. The IPX-4 rated body is watertight, allowing you to take it out into the rain, fog, and snow.

Activate the flash mode as a beacon for identification or emergencies. You can rely upon the integrated voltage regulation chip to keep your light output consistent as your batteries discharge. The negative end of the battery should be flat, and it may or may not be marked with a minus, or -, symbol. Twist the knurled ring at the front of the flashlight, just behind the reflector, clockwise to turn the LED beam on for some models; press a button at the back end of the flashlight or on the side of the flashlight on other models.

Place the cover back on the battery compartment. The ribbon should stick out. As in the Alien films, the motion tracker gives you a sense of what hazards are moving about nearby and friendlies, as well. When a battery is not fully-charged, the sulfuric acid and distilled water inside the battery are not properly-mixed and the distilled water can freeze. If this happens, a battery could be damaged and may need to be replaced. After removing the cap, you can hold the light upside down and the batteries will slide out, allowing you to change the batteries.
